The Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” The key word here is LIFE. The government has a duty to protect the life of all innocent individuals regardless of age.
Recently I have had the privilege to view the ultrasound images of my grandson. At the time I first viewed those images, he had not taken his first breath; however he was very much alive, and has been since the day of his conception. From that time on, we need to protect the life of the child. I am happy to announce that I have been endorsed by both Wisconsin Right to Life and Pro-Life Wisconsin.
There are many instances in life when one is called upon to sacrifice for another. It is not a function of government to choose between the life of the child and the life of the mother. Since life is involved, every effort should be taken to save both. This is a family matter, and they are the ones who will be responsible for the choice they make. We can only give them support and understanding for the tough choices involved.
