Everyone wants affordable health care. The real question is how to achieve this. There are several things that we can do in Wisconsin.
- Approve the use of Health Savings Accounts by making personal contributions to them deductible on our state income tax. Already in place on the federal level and in most other states, this would allow individuals to have more options with their personal choices for health care.
- Repeal the recently enacted tax on gross hospital revenue. Obviously, this cost will be passed on to the consumer, increasing the cost to everyone who needs health care or purchases health insurance.
- Put the choices about insurance coverage for specific conditions into the hands of the people. Currently in Wisconsin, we place a lot of mandates on what must be covered by health insurance. Each one of these mandates has a cost associated with it. It also takes the freedom of choice away from the individual.
- As a member of the state assembly I will support State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen in his attempt to challenge the constitutionality of the current national health care bill. The constitution does not give the federal or state governments the right to demand the purchase of any product.
